Iain Gordon was born and brought up in Paisley. After leaving school he attended Cardonald College and gained an H.N.D in Art & Design. After leaving college he worked in a school supply company. While working there, through the company, gained an N.A.P.M (National Association of Paper Merchants) certificate learning how papers are made, the different weights and grades of papers including their different uses.
He now runs an educational art and craft supply company in Glasgow with his wife. Here he is able to enjoy testing various paints, acrylics, brushes etc and offers advice to customers.
Iain mostly paints in oil, watercolour and acrylic in both ‘tight’ and ‘loose’ painting styles.
“Sometimes it’s good just to paint freely with no restriction of colour, shape or form. Taking time to stand back and look at the painting you realise that what is needed is a ‘mark’ made from a well-seasoned brush to help bring the picture to life. I also enjoy experiment with different textures and mediums helping to understand the different interactions of various mediums. I enjoy painting the West Coast of Scotland, the Highlands & Islands with a wee soft spot for Orkney”
A keen fly fisher, which takes Iain all over Scotland seeing ‘off the beaten track’ hill lochs and different views of mountains and glens that are usually not seen by others.
